1.2 Creating a volume

A volume can be created from two places:

Creating a volume from the Block Storage section

To create a volume from the Block Storage section, follow these steps:
  • sign in to the New Cloud Management Platform;
  • in the left vertical menu, under SERVICES, select Storage;
  • in the Block Storage area, click on Go to Block Storage;
  • in the Block Storage section, click on Create new volume;
  • the Create new volume procedure requires the following details:
    • 1. Details
      • Volume name: the name that will be used to identify the volume (naming rules);
      • Tags (optional): you can associate tags with each volume created to facilitate searching (tagging rules).;
      • Destination project: the volume must be allocated to a project. If none is selected, the system will allocate the volume to the default project;
      • click on Continue;
    • 2. Location
      The choice of Region cannot be changed later.
      • specify the region / zone in which the volume should be located;
      • you can decide to make the volume available for all resources in the Region (default option) or specify a zone within the Region;
      • click on Continue;
    • 3. Configuration
      • select which of the two storage types you want to create:
        • Standard: volume optimized for workloads with moderate I/O requirements;
        • Performance: volume optimized for intense workloads;
      • specify the size of the volume in GB. The minimum volume is 1 GB;
      • click on Continue.
    • click on Confirm on the right side of the sticky bar to finish creating the volume.
The volume created will appear in the list in the Volumes section and the status will show as Creating. It takes a few minutes for the volume to be created.

Creating a volume from the Cloud Server details page

To create a volume from the Cloud Server details page, follow these steps:
  • sign in to the New Cloud Management Platform;
  • in the left vertical menu, under SERVICES select Compute;
  • in the Cloud Servers area click on Go to Cloud Servers;
  • in the Cloud Server section, find the Cloud Server to which you want to add the volume and click on the three dots ... at the end of the line;
  • select Manage from the list of options;
  • this will take you to the Cloud Server details page;
  • in the lower part of the page, select the Storage tab;
  • click on Create new volume;
  • the Create new volume procedure requires the following details:
      • 1. Details
        • Volume name: the name that will be used to identify the volume (naming rules);
        • Tags (optional): you can associate tags with each volume created to facilitate searching (tagging rules).;
        • Destination project: the volume must be allocated to a project. If none is selected, the system will allocate the volume to the default project;
        • click on Continue;
      • 2. Location
