2.1 Creating a snapshot

A snapshot can be created from one of two places:

Creating a snapshot from the volume details page

To create a snapshot from the volume details page, follow the steps below:
  • sign in to the New Cloud Management Platform;
  • in the left vertical menu, under SERVICES select Storage;
  • in the Block Storage area, click on Go to Block Storage;
  • in the Block Storage section, find the volume you want to create a snapshot of and click on the three dots ... at the end of the line;
  • select Create snapshot from the list of options;
  • the Create Snapshot procedure requires the following details:
    • 1. Choice of volume
      • The volume is already selected and cannot be changed.
      • Click on Continue.
    • 2. Snapshot details
      • Snapshot name: is the name that will be used to identify the snapshot (naming requirements).
      • Tags (optional): tags can be assigned to each snapshot created to facilitate searching through the list of snapshots created (tagging requirements).
      • Destination project: a snapshot must be allocated to a project, if none is selected, the system will assign the snapshot to the default project.
      • Click on Continue.
    • 3. Location
      • The location of the snapshot is inherited from the volume.
      • Click on Continue.
    • 4. Configuration
      • The size of the snapshot is inherited from the volume.
      • Click on Continue.
  • click on the Confirm button on the right of the sticky bar to finish creating the snapshot.

Creating a snapshot from the Snapshots section

To create a snapshot from the Snapshots section, follow the steps below:
  • sign in to the New Cloud Management Platform;
  • in the left vertical menu, under SERVICES select Storage;
  • in the Block Storage area, click on Go to Block Storage;
  • in the lower part of the page, select the Snapshots tab;
  • select Create snapshot;
  • the Create Snapshot procedure requires the following details:
    • 1. Choice of volume
      • specify for which volume you want to create the snapshot;
      • Click on Continue.
    • 2. Snapshot details
      • Snapshot name: is the name that will be used to identify the snapshot (naming requirements).
      • Tags (optional): tags can be assigned to each snapshot created to facilitate searching through the list of snapshots created (tagging requirements).
      • Destination project: a snapshot must be allocated to a project, if none is selected, the system will assign the snapshot to the default project.
      • Click on Continue.
    • 3. Location
      • The location of the snapshot is inherited from the volume.
      • Click on Continue.
    • 4. Configuration
      • The size of the snapshot is inherited from the volume.
      • Click on Continue.
  • click on the Confirm button on the right of the sticky bar to finish creating the snapshot.
