1.2 Brief overview of service configuration

Prerequisite

Having an active Microsoft 365 service (with a Business, Education, or Government account) and a profile with one of the following roles:
  • Global Administrator
  • Owner

The key steps to configure the service are as follows:

Cloud Control Panel

  • Create a Backup for Microsoft 365 account using Aruba's Cloud service;
    • choose the solution (shared or dedicated);
    • choose the access credentials (username, company, and password);
    • select the number of backup users and space with a possible second copy;
    • select the policies to apply to the backups.

Veeam Service Provider Console

  • Connect to Veeam Service Provider Console using your credentials (company\username_company and password) from your Backup for Microsoft 365 account;
  • link your Microsoft 365 organization to the backup service via the Application Settings;
  • now:
    • choose which services offered by Microsoft 365 you want to protect;
    • log in with your administrative credentials on Microsoft 365 to authorize Veeam to perform operations (data backup);
  • Create a backup job:
    • Choose the object (users or groups) to protect;
    • Select the items of the object (services, folders, or files) you want to back up;
  • Your organization is now connected and the job is set up;
  • The job will be performed daily, within the specified time frame during the creation of the Backup for Microsoft 365 account.

Veeam Restore Portal

  • Download the script and establish a trust at the Azure AD level between your Microsoft 365 organization and Veeam Restore Portal.
  • on the Backup for Microsoft 365 account details tab, enable groups or users as restore operators.
