5.2.2.3 Connecting to the VMware Cloud Server via the Recovery Console from Linux

ATTENTION: we remind you that these guides are no longer valid as the connection method to the Recovery Console is no longer supported. Please use the only valid user guide for the Recovery Console.
Before you proceed you need to first install and connect with the "Forticlient SSL VPN" VPN client.

If you haven’t already done so you need to get the details for the connection to the Recovery Console:
  • sign in the Cloud Server service
  • go to the "vSphere Client" section found in the left menu

  • copy the details indicated in "vSphere Client connection details", for example:
    Server: dc01vcenter501.intra.cloud.it
    Account: AWI-12345
Open Firefox and connect to the address of the Server found in "vSphere Client connection details" creating the URL as follows:
  • https://<inserire qui il Server>:9443/vsphere-client/
By using the details of, for example, the address to which you connect it would therefore be:
Sign in using your username and password for the arubacloud.com service.

For more details on the connection to VMware vSphere Web Client see the relevant guide.

To open the Console in the left column at the top select "VMs and Templates" then navigate to the part at the bottom and select the Cloud Server to which you wish to connect, as highlighted in green (Fig 01).

If it’s the first time that you connect to the VMware vSphere Web Client in the "Console" field, under the screenshot of the Cloud Server you will find the link "Install client integration plug-in to view VM console" as highlighted in red (Fig. 01).

In this case you need to proceed with the installation of VMware Client Integration Plug-in for Linux.

[Fig. 01]

After installing the plug-in in the "Console" field, under the screenshot of the Cloud Server, you will find the link "Launch console" (Fig. 02).

[Fig. 02]

By clicking on it in Firefox a new tab will open with the console of your Cloud Server (Fig. 03).

Installation of VMware Client Integration Plug-in on Linux

For this guide first you need to install and connect with the "Forticlient SSL VPN" VPN client, and connect to the VMware Recovery Console.

By clicking on the link "Install client integration plug-in to view VM console" (highlighted in red in Fig. 04).

[Fig. 04]

Firefox asks if you wish to save the file:
  • VMware-VMRC.i386.bundle for 32 bit systems
  • VMware-VMRC.x86_64.bundle for 64 bit systems
 [Fig. 05]

Select "Save File" and click on "OK" (Fig. 05).

Open a Terminal, go to the directory in which the file was saved (usually this is the "~/Downloads" directory in your Home Directory) and run the command:

cd ~/Downloads
sudo bash VMware-VMRC.*

Should Firefox be running you will be asked to close it before you complete the installation of the plugin. The installation program requires the path of Firefox. Enter:

/usr/bin/firefox

Then you will need to enter the path of the plugins of Firefox:
  • for Ubuntu Linux (32bit and 64 bit) enter:

    /usr/lib/firefox-addons/plugins

  • for Fedora 18 at 32 bit enter:

    /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins

  • for Fedora 18 at 64 bit enter:

    /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/

The installation has been completed (Fig. 06).
