Features
Debian, created by the Debian Project, is a computer operating system composed only of free software, even if you can also use, by adding a suitable repository, proprietary software or free software based on non-free software. It Is developed through the collaboration of volunteers from all over the world and provides more than a simple operating system: it comes with more than 29,000 packets, pre-compiled software bundled up in such a way as to allow easy installation.
The main form, Debian GNU/Linux uses the Linux kernel (the core of an operating system) and utility programs from the GNU project. This is why it is called GNU/Linux.
The name Debian was coined by the founder of the project, Ian Murdock, combining his name and the first three letters of that of his girlfriend (now ex-wife) Debra.
