How to access the Cloud Server via RDP

RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) is a protocol developed by Microsoft that allows you to connect to a remote computer through a graphical interface. Although RDP is native to Windows, there are many clients available for other operating systems, such as Linux or macOS.

To connect to the Cloud Server from a computer running Windows, follow these steps:
Start > Windows Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection
once launched, a window will open asking you for the connection details;
use the following details:
  • the IP address associated with your Cloud Server;
  • administrator as the Cloud Server username;
  • the password you set after creating the Cloud Server.

How to access the Cloud Server via SSH

SSH (Secure Shell) is a network protocol that allows you to connect to a remote computer through a Unix-based command-line interface. SSH commands are encrypted and secure.

Connecting to a Linux Cloud Server from a computer running Linux

To connect to a Linux Cloud Server from a computer running Linux, use the SSH command:
ssh 85.235.xxx.xx -l username
where the IP address is the IP address of the Cloud Server and the username varies depending on the template used for the Cloud Server. Press Enter and you will be prompted for the Cloud Server password.

Once authenticated, you can run SSH commands to manage your Linux Cloud Server.

Connecting to a Linux Cloud Server from a computer running Windows

To connect to a Linux Cloud Server from a computer running Windows, you can use various clients that support SSH access. The most commonly used include PuTTY, OpenSSH and WinSCP.

Example of a connection using PuTTY:
  • once PuTTY is launched, in the Session category, enter the IP address associated with the Cloud Server in the Host Name (or IP address) field;
  • select Open to open a command-line interface where you will be prompted for the username, which varies depending on the template used for the Cloud Server;
  • enter the password you set after creating the Cloud Server.

How to access the Cloud Server via recovery console

We recommend using the recovery console only when strictly necessary, as access methods such as RDP or SSH are preferable because they are significantly faster and provide better performance.

The recovery console allows you to access your Cloud Servers through a graphical interface within Aruba CMP. It is the only way to access a Cloud Server when no IP address is associated with it or when the IP address is not configured correctly. Using the recovery console, you can:
  • reboot your Cloud Server, which can also be done from the details page;
  • access the Cloud Server directly through a graphical interface using your browser;
  • manage and/or monitor the status of the Cloud Server and any configured devices.

Accessing the recovery console

  • go to the Cloud Server details page;
  • go to Cloud Server actions and select Access console.
