How to create a backup job

Best practices

Create one or more Microsoft 365 groups containing the users in your organization that you want to protect. Use Veeam Service Provider Console to create a backup job for each group. This offers several advantages:
  • all users in a given group will have the same retention policy;
  • you can add users to the group and protect them without having to create specific backup jobs each time;
  • you can remove users from the group without having to worry about deleting the corresponding backup jobs.

To create a backup job, follow these steps:
  • access Veeam Service Provider Console;
  • from the menu on the left, select Management > Backup jobs;
  • select Create Job from the horizontal menu;
  • select Backup Job;
  • in the New Backup Job section, complete the following steps:
    • Job Name
      • Name - enter a name for the job;
      • Description - enter a description, if necessary;
    • Organization
      • if you have only one organization, it is selected automatically;
      • if you have multiple organizations, select the one for which you want to create the backup job.
    • Backup Mode - specify the objects to protect:
      • Backup scope
        • Entire organization - to protect the entire organization, including all users and services;
        • Backup the specified object - to select the objects to protect;
      • Exclusions
        • Specify object to exclude from the backup - to exclude specific objects from the backup.
    • Backup Repository - specify where to store the backups:
      • select Select...;
      • in the Available Repositories section, select the repository to use.
    • Summary - review the selected settings:
      • select Start the job when I click finish to start the job when creation is complete;
      • if you do not select this option, the job will run during the time window selected for the Backup for Microsoft 365 account.
