05 Requesting a Kubernetes version upgrade

Available and supported Kubernetes versions

When creating a new Kubernetes cluster, Aruba Cloud allows you to choose from three available versions and indicates the recommended one.
Kubernetes, as part of the KaaS (Kubernetes as a Service) service offered by Aruba Cloud, is available in the following versions:
  • Version 1.35.3

  • Version 1.34.1

  • Version 1.33.2

From the official end of support date of the version installed on your Kubernetes cluster, you have 30 days to upgrade the version. If you do not upgrade within 30 days, Aruba Cloud will automatically upgrade the cluster version without requiring any action from you.

Checking the Kubernetes version

  • In the Aruba Managed Kubernetes section, locate the cluster whose version you want to check and select the three dots at the end of the corresponding row;
  • select Manage cluster from the list;
  • on the cluster details page, under the cluster name, you can find all the relevant information, including the installed version;
  • next to the version, select Manage version to go to the Kubernetes version section.

Checking which Kubernetes APIs will no longer be supported after the upgrade

  • In the Manage APIs section, select Learn about Pluto;
  • you can check which Kubernetes APIs will no longer be supported after the upgrade.

Why keeping Kubernetes up to date is important

Keeping your Kubernetes cluster up to date is essential for ensuring security, performance and compatibility with the latest features. Each new Kubernetes version introduces improvements in stability, new APIs, bug fixes and security patches.

Upgrading the Kubernetes version

  • On the cluster details page, select Manage version next to the version to go to the Kubernetes version section;
  • at the bottom of the section, select Request update to upgrade the Kubernetes version;
    (if the button is disabled, the latest available version is already installed);
    • you will be redirected to the 3. Kubernetes Version section of the Edit cluster procedure;
    • select one of the available versions and select Confirm;
    • in the Update Kubernetes window, the selected version is displayed and you can choose when to run the upgrade;

      If you do not schedule the upgrade for a future date, the cluster will immediately enter the Updating status and will remain locked until the upgrade is complete.
    • after making your choice, select Confirm;
    • confirm the remaining steps in the procedure and complete the process by selecting Confirm at the bottom of the page.
