0.2 Available protocols and their functions

In this section, you can find all the protocols available for checks. Each check verifies that a specific service (web, email, database, network, etc.) is working correctly.

PING - Checks whether a host responds to a ping command

You can use this check to verify whether a domain or IP address is reachable from the Internet. For each ping command sent, the monitoring system provides information indicating whether the resource responds correctly.

field example
Domain/IP domainname.ext

HTTP - Checks whether a web server is working correctly

You can use this check to verify whether the Web Server is working correctly. You must enter a web address (URL) and a port (set to 80 by default). You can also enter credentials (basic authentication), a POST string, and text that you expect to receive or not receive.

field example
Domain/IP domainname.ext/pagename.ext
Port 80
Username [1] username
Password [1] password
Send string [1] name=mario&surname=rossi
String to receive/not receive [1] textpossiblycontainedinthepage
1. Optional field.

HTTPS - Checks whether a web server is working correctly

You can use this check to verify whether the Web Server is working correctly. You must enter a web address (URL) and a port (set to 443 by default). You can optionally enter credentials (basic authentication), a POST string, and text that you expect to receive or not receive.

field example
Domain/IP domainname.ext/pagename.ext
Port 443
Username [1] username
Password [1] password
Send string [1] name=mario&surname=rossi

If this field is filled in, the probe performs a POST request instead of a GET request. The content is sent as RAW POST data (raw body), rather than as form-urlencoded data (application/x-www-form-urlencoded). As a result, on the server side the data will not be available in the standard POST parameter array and must instead be read from the raw request body (for example, in PHP using php://input).
String to receive/not receive [1] textpossiblycontainedinthepage
1. Optional field.

DNS - Checks whether the DNS service is working correctly

You can use this check to verify whether the DNS service is working correctly. Enter an IP address and a domain. The system queries the DNS server (using the IP address/host) to resolve the domain you enter.

field example
IP/Host 62.149.128.3
Domain/IP dns.domainname.ext

FTP - Checks whether an FTP service is working correctly

You can use this check to monitor the FTP service of your web space. You must enter a domain or IP address and a port (21 by default). You can also enter a username and password to validate access.

field example

You can use this check to verify whether the IMAP service is working correctly. You must enter an IP address or domain and a port (set to 993 by default when SSL/TLS is selected and 143 when SSL/TLS is not selected). The system queries the IP address to verify that the service is active. You can enable encryption by selecting SSL/TLS.

field example
IP/Host imap.domainname.ext
Port 993
checkbox SSL/TLS

POP3 - Checks whether a mail download server is working correctly

You can use this check to verify whether the POP3 service is working correctly. You must enter an IP address or domain and a port (set to 995 by default when SSL/TLS is selected and 110 when SSL/TLS is not selected). The check queries the IP address to verify that the service is active. You can enable encryption by selecting SSL/TLS.

field example
IP/Host pop3.domainname.ext
Port 995
checkbox SSL/TLS

SMTP - Checks whether a mail sending server is working correctly

You can use this check to verify whether the SMTP service is working correctly. You must enter an IP address or domain and a port (set to 465 by default when SSL/TLS is selected and 25 when SSL/TLS is not selected). The check queries the IP address to verify that the service is active. You can enable encryption by selecting SSL/TLS.

field example
IP/Host smtp.domainname.ext
Port 465
checkbox SSL/TLS

SSL Certificate - Checks an SSL certificate

You can use this check to monitor the expiration of an SSL Certificate. You must enter an IP address, a port (set to 443 by default), and the number of days before the certificate expires. The system performs the check according to the settings you have selected and sends you a notification only when the configured number of days before expiration is reached.

field example
IP 32.148.128.35
Port 443
Number of days before expiration for notification 7
