Configuration procedure for an OpenStack Cloud Server
There is a limit of 30 virtual machines (Cloud Servers and Cloud VPSs) that you can activate with your Cloud account. To activate more than 30 virtual machines, you must contact
customer support.
To create an OpenStack Cloud Server, proceed as follows:
- log in to Aruba CMP;
- from the menu, go to Public Cloud > Compute essential;
- in the OpenStack Cloud Server area, select Go to the Control Panel;
- the Management window opens;
- select the data center where you want to create your OpenStack Cloud Server;
- select CREATE NEW CLOUD SERVER;
- the New Cloud Server configuration window opens;
- the creation procedure requires the following information:
- 1 - Technology Selection
- 2 - Template Selection
- select one of the available preconfigured templates;
- by selecting Also configure a public IPv6 address, you will have an IPv6 address in addition to the IPv4 address automatically assigned by the system; the public IPv6 address can only be activated when creating the OpenStack Cloud Server;
- 3 - Size Selection
- select a size from:
- General Purpose - vCPU/RAM ratio of 1:2;
- RAM Oriented - vCPU/RAM ratio of 1:4;
- in both cases, you can:
- add one or more disks using ADD HD;
- select the IPv4 address using MANAGE IP;
- connect a Virtual Switch using CONNECT VIRTUAL SWITCH;
- 4 - Server Information
- assign a name to the OpenStack Cloud Server;
- 5 - Server Management Account
- enter the password you want to associate with the OpenStack Cloud Server;
- if you selected a Linux template, you can add an SSH key;
- Billing type
- select the billing type to apply to the OpenStack Cloud Server:
- hourly;
- monthly, 30 days;
- annual.
- select CREATE NEW CLOUD SERVER; the Create new Cloud Server window opens. Confirm by selecting OK, CREATE CLOUD SERVER.
Billing type
The billing type selected for the OpenStack Cloud Server applies only to the vCPU, RAM and HD resources and to any Microsoft Windows Server licence. It does not affect resources billed hourly (Virtual Switch and additional IP addresses) and/or by calendar month (such as Windows Server RDS and Microsoft SQL Server software licences).
For example, with annual billing for an OpenStack Cloud Server running Windows Server with vCPU, RAM, HD, a Microsoft SQL Server licence, a Virtual Switch and an additional IP address (in addition to the primary IP address automatically assigned), you will pay:
- in advance (covering the annual period) for vCPU, RAM, HD and the Microsoft Windows Server licence;
- hourly for the Virtual Switch and the additional IP address (the primary IP address is free of charge);
- by calendar month (at the beginning of each month) for the Microsoft SQL Server licence.
You can change the billing type at any time.
Recommended best practices
- Regularly check the statistics section of your OpenStack Cloud Server to monitor resource usage.
- Schedule operations to optimise the performance of your OpenStack Cloud Server.
- Create a snapshot before installing software on your OpenStack Cloud Server so that you have a copy of its contents in case of problems.
- Use the Cloud Backup service to protect the contents of your OpenStack Cloud Server.
- Configure the Cloud Monitoring service to check that your OpenStack Cloud Server is always reachable from the public network.
