01 Types of costs applied and use of credit

Types of costs

You can choose from six types of costs, depending on the resource or service.
  • Hourly cost: this cost applies to all resources (e.g. vCPU, RAM, hard disks) that are charged on an hourly basis (or fraction of an hour). You can therefore pay for just one hour of service.
  • Monthly cost (30 days): you must pay this cost in advance to cover the following 30 days (730 hours) in order to use the selected resource. Resources charged on a monthly basis are billed regardless of their actual use: you will pay for them in advance even if you use them for just one hour.

The monthly cost is calculated based on 730 hours:
    365 days x 24 hours = 8,760 hours
    8,760 hours / 12 months = 730 hours
  • Calendar month cost: you pay this cost in advance and it covers the period from the activation of the resource until the end of the month. These costs do not depend on the number of hours the resource is used. These costs are required by the license providers.
The Paris-Berlin-Rome GMT +1 time zone is used as the reference for the end of the calendar month.
  • Annual cost: this cost is paid in advance and covers a period of one year from activation.

The annual cost is calculated based on 8,760 hours:
    365 days x 24 hours = 8,760 hours
  • One-off cost: a cost charged when technical support is requested.
  • Pay-Per-Use cost: this cost is charged only when the service is used.

Credit reservation when starting operations

When you request the activation of one or more services, the credit required to cover their cost is reserved.

Always make sure that you have sufficient available credit to perform the required operation, whether it is an activation, upgrade or renewal.

The reserved credit is the sum of the various costs (hourly, monthly, calendar month, annual, one-off). In the event of an upgrade and/or renewal, credit may be reserved regardless of the status of the service (on/off, enabled/disabled, etc.).

If the creation operation fails (or if, for any reason, the requested services are not provided), the reserved credit is released and becomes available again.

Using credit to renew services

If your credit balance is positive and sufficient, your resources and services will be renewed automatically when they expire, regardless of the type of cost.
If you do not want to renew a resource or service, you must manually delete it before it expires.
If you do not delete it manually, the service will still be renewed.

For resources and/or services with monthly, calendar month or annual costs (and therefore paid in advance), we recommend deleting them close to their expiry date or, if the service allows it, scheduling their deletion at the end of the prepaid period.

Credit validity

You can use any remaining credit that has not yet been allocated to a service to purchase or renew Aruba services. Credit is valid for 12 months from the payment date, as specified in the ARUBA CLOUD SERVICE TERMS AND CONDITIONS.

If you do not use your credit within 12 months, it will be permanently retained by Aruba and you will no longer be able to request a refund.
