05 Upgrade: calculating cost allocation

When you upgrade a service (with a 30-day monthly or annual price plan), the price can be calculated in two ways:
  • full cost - you pay the full cost of the upgrade, regardless of the number of days left until renewal;
  • accrued - you only pay the portion of the upgrade cost calculated according to the time (in hours) left until renewal.

If your service uses accrued pricing, the upgrade price is calculated as follows:
  • for a monthly service (30 days):
    • the month is considered as 730 hours;
    • the cost is calculated as follows:
    • (upgrade cost ÷ 730) × hours left
  • for an annual service:
    • the year is considered as 8,760 hours;
    • the cost is calculated as follows:
    • (upgrade cost ÷ 8,760) × hours left

Example

Suppose you activated a monthly service costing 100 Euros on 10 June and want to upgrade it for 150 Euros on 27 June:
  • time left until renewal: 13 days = 312 hours;
  • hourly upgrade cost: 150 ÷ 730 = 0.2055 Euros/hour;
  • final price: 0.2055 × 312 = 64.12 Euros.
In this case, instead of paying the full 150 Euros, you will only pay 64.12 Euros, calculated according to the time left until renewal.
