08 The Snapshot feature

What is a snapshot

A snapshot is a point-in-time copy of a volume that saves the state of its data and configurations at a specific moment.
You can use it to restore the volume to the state it was in when the snapshot was created.
The snapshot is stored on the same storage platform as the volume and shares its location.

Why create a snapshot

  • Protect the data stored on the volume.
  • Quickly restore the volume in case of issues following updates, installations, or configuration changes.

How many snapshots you can create

There is no limit to the number of snapshots you can create for a volume.

How long a snapshot remains active

A snapshot does not expire and remains available even after it has been restored.
It is deleted when you remove it manually.

Best practices

  • Always create a snapshot before updates, installations, or major changes.
  • Delete snapshots that are no longer needed to optimize storage space and reduce costs.
  • Remember: a snapshot does not replace a backup, but complements it by providing quick recovery.
  • Use clear names and tags for snapshots so you can easily find and manage them.
