Global backup policies are predefined infrastructure-level configurations that can be used to schedule automatic backups. Each global policy defines:

• the backup sequence (Full and Incremental);
• the backup frequency;
• the scheduled day and time;
• the retention period applied to Full backups (and the related incremental backup chain).

Global backup policies cannot be edited and provide a standardized, consistent configuration optimized according to infrastructure best practices. You can assign a global backup policy to a volume to automatically apply its scheduling and retention rules.

The choice of global backup policy depends on the required level of protection and how long the data needs to be retained. In general:
 

weekly-ret-next-full	Suitable for environments with standard weekly protection requirements and a short retention period (7 days).
weekly-ret-next-2nd-full	Suitable for scenarios that require a longer restore window (14 days).
weekly-ret-monthly-full	Recommended when backups need to be retained for a longer period (28 days).
weekly-ret-2-monthly-full	Suitable for critical environments that require an even longer retention period (56 days).
bi-week-6-day-ret	Useful when you need two weekly Full restore points with short retention periods distributed throughout the week.
bi-week-3-day-ret	Suitable for scenarios that require recent restore points and a very short retention period.

Before assigning a policy to a volume, consider:

• how critical the data is;
• how frequently the data changes;
• the minimum period for which the data must remain recoverable.

A longer retention period provides greater restore flexibility but requires more storage space.
