Prerequisite
You can only run a manual backup if you have already assigned a backup plan to the server.
What is a manual backup
A manual backup allows you to start a backup operation on a server immediately, without waiting for the automatic schedule defined by the assigned backup plan.
How long a manual backup remains active
A manual backup starts an immediate operation but does not change the schedule of the backup plan assigned to the server.
Once completed, the backup becomes part of the server's backup history and is retained according to the rules defined in the backup plan.
The backup job remains visible in the
Jobs section, where you can
monitor its status and view its history.
How to run a manual backup
- Access Commvault Command Center;
- from the menu, select Protect > Files;
- switch from the Overview tab to the Files tab;

- locate the server on which you want to run a manual backup and select the three-dot menu at the end of its row (in the Actions column);
- select Backup from the list;
- in the Backup window:
- the configuration of the data included in the backup is displayed (the Subclient or instance being backed up field identifies what is being backed up);
- by default, the default subclient is used, which represents the standard server configuration;
- select the backup type:
- Full - creates a complete copy of the data;
- Incremental - backs up only the changes;
- Synthetic full - creates a full backup from existing backups;
- if necessary, disable the notification sent when the backup is completed by turning off Notify user on job completion;
- select SUBMIT to start the manual backup.
