09 Filtering one or more IP addresses using Windows firewall

What to know before proceeding

Windows Firewall allows you to control incoming and outgoing connections to a Cloud Server through specific security rules. You can restrict incoming connections handled by a specific firewall rule to one or more authorized remote IP addresses.

When configuring firewall rules, it is important to distinguish between:
  • Local IP address: identifies the destination IP address on the Cloud Server;
  • Remote IP address: identifies the source IP address of the connection.
To restrict access to the Cloud Server based on the source IP address, you must configure the remote IP addresses on the Scope tab of the relevant rule. Changes apply only to the selected rule. To ensure that access is allowed only from the specified IP addresses, check that there are no other firewall rules allowing the same connections from different IP addresses.

Changing firewall rules may interrupt connections to the Cloud Server, including access via RDP. Before applying the changes, make sure that the IP address you are connecting from is authorized by the configured rules. If you lose access via RDP, you can use the recovery console to check and correct the firewall configuration.
