10 Archiving and restoring a Cloud Server

What archiving a Cloud Server involves

Archiving allows you to keep the Cloud Server without keeping it active.
The procedure described in this guide applies to:
  • OpenStack Cloud Server;
  • VMware Cloud Server.
When you archive a Cloud Server, the resources associated with the machine are released, except for disk space, which is retained so that the Cloud Server can be restored later.

Cloud Server archiving and billing

  • Cloud Server with hourly billing - while the Cloud Server is archived, only the disk space is charged.
  • Cloud Server with monthly 30-day billing - the prepaid amount remains valid until it expires. If the Cloud Server is still archived on the renewal date, billing changes to hourly and disk space is charged.

How to archive the Cloud Server

  • Go to the details page of the Cloud Server you want to archive;
  • check that the Cloud Server is OFF;
  • in the SERVER ACTIONS area, go to ARCHIVE;
  • in the Confirm Server Archiving window, copy the text ARCHIVE CLOUD SERVER into the field provided;
  • go to OK, ARCHIVE.
You cannot archive the Cloud Server if a snapshot is present. Remove the snapshot before archiving the Cloud Server.

How to restore an archived Cloud Server

  • Log in to the Control Panel and select the Data Center where the Cloud Server is located;
  • depending on the Cloud Server you want to restore:
    • for an OpenStack Cloud Server, go to PUBLIC CLOUD > Compute essential > Archive;
    • for a VMware Cloud Server, go to VMWARE ON ARUBA CLOUD > Compute essential > Archive;
  • go to the details page of the archived Cloud Server;
  • in the SERVER ACTIONS area, go to RESTORE;
  • on the page displayed, check the resources configured for the Cloud Server;
    • if necessary, modify the resources using the - and + buttons;
  • check the new Cloud Server cost;
  • go to RESTORE CLOUD SERVER;
  • in the Restore Cloud Server window, go to OK, RESTORE.
