04 Adding a load balancer

Who can add a load balancer

The service can be activated by any Aruba Cloud user with two or more machines (Cloud Servers, Cloud VPS or Dedicated Servers) with identical configurations (hypervisor and template) and the same data, hosted in the same Data Center.

Adding a load balancer

  • log in to Aruba CMP;
  • you can access load balancer management from Public Cloud or VMware on Aruba Cloud:
    • Public Cloud:
      • from the menu, select PUBLIC CLOUD > Compute essential;
      • in the OpenStack Cloud Server area, select Go to the Control Panel;
      • from the menu, select PUBLIC CLOUD > Network > Load balancers;
    • VMware on Aruba Cloud:
      • from the menu, select VMWARE ON ARUBA CLOUD > Compute essential;
      • in the VMware Cloud Server area, select Go to the Control Panel;
      • from the menu, select VMWARE ON ARUBA CLOUD > Network > Load balancers;
  • select the Data Center where you want to add the load balancer;
  • in the Manage load balancers section, select CREATE NEW LOAD BALANCER;
  • the creation procedure requires the following information:
    • 1 - Name of new Load balancer
      • enter a name for the load balancer. After activation, you can change it using the editing procedure;

        Within the same network, two load balancers cannot be created with the same name.
    • 2 - Servers to balance
      • select which machines you want to connect to the load balancer from those listed;
        using the Dedicated Server IP Address field, you can connect one or more Dedicated Servers by entering the relevant IP address;
    • 3 - Create Rules
      • configure at least one rule;
        use ADD RULE to create additional rules;
    • 4 - Notifications
      • choose whether to enable the notification service if the load balancer detects an issue with one of the connected machines;
    • 5 - Load balancer IP address
      • the system automatically assigns an IP address to the load balancer. If you have available IP addresses, you can use one by selecting it from the list displayed when you select MODIFY IP;
    • Select CREATE LOAD BALANCER. In the Create new load balancer window, confirm by selecting OK, CREATE LOAD BALANCER.

Best practices

  • Regularly review the load history and statistics from the load balancer details page.
  • If you expect traffic peaks, we recommend using scheduled tasks to plan increases in the resources of the connected machines.
  • Use Cloud Monitoring to check that the machines connected to the load balancer remain reachable.
  • Make sure that rules that are added or removed do not prevent the load balancer from working correctly.
  • Regularly perform failover tests to ensure that the system responds correctly to real failures.
