1.6 Extended Lifecycle Support program (ELS) - Automatic activation of TuxCare extension

What is TuxCare

TuxCare is a security extension integrated into the ELS (Extended Lifecycle Support) program, designed to provide security patches for operating systems that have reached the end of their official support cycle (End of Life - EOL), allowing Plesk to continue operating.

When TuxCare is automatically activated

The TuxCare extension is automatically installed by Plesk when the machine's operating system is no longer officially supported by the vendor (End of Life - EOL).
For an up-to-date list of operating systems supported by Plesk, see:

When Aruba started applying the additional cost

The additional cost, charged for Plesk installations on operating systems that are no longer supported, has applied since 21 July 2025.

How automatic TuxCare activation works

  • Plesk checks the machine's operating system;
  • if the operating system is EOL, Plesk automatically installs the TuxCare extension in the Plesk panel;
  • the extension starts working without requiring a reboot or service interruption;
  • the extension has a monthly cost that varies depending on the Plesk license installed.

How to check if the TuxCare extension is active

To check if the extension is active, follow these steps:
  • sign in to the Plesk panel as administrator;
  • go to Extensions;
  • search for TuxCare ELS in the list;
  • if it is displayed, the extension is already active;
  • you cannot deactivate it manually, as it is automatically installed when the operating system is no longer supported (EOL).

How to avoid additional costs

To avoid the activation and resulting additional costs of the TuxCare extension:
  • perform a full backup of the machine;
  • update the operating system to a version that is still supported;
  • once completed, the TuxCare extension will be automatically removed.
For Plesk installations based on CentOS 7, you can consider migrating to AlmaLinux using the official script provided by Plesk: The script lets you convert the operating system while retaining the server configuration and Plesk installation.

The script is provided directly by Plesk and is not developed or maintained by Aruba Cloud. It is recommended only for users with experience in managing Linux systems. Before proceeding, we recommend performing a full backup of the machine.
