02 Creating a volume

Creating a volume from the Block Storage section

  • Log in to Aruba CMP;
  • from the menu, select Public Cloud > Storage;
  • in the Block Storage area, select Go to Block Storage;
  • in the Block Storage section, select Create new volume;
  • in the Create new volume procedure, the following information is required:
    • 1. Information
      • assign a name to the volume (follow the naming rules);
      • you can associate one or more tags with the volume (follow the tagging rules);
      • you must assign the volume to a project. If you do not make a selection, the system will assign the volume to the default project;
      • select Continue;
    • 2. Location
      • choose the region where you want to place the volume (this choice cannot be changed after creation);
      • you can choose whether to make the volume available to all resources in the region (default option) or specify a particular zone within the region;
      • select Continue;
    • 3. Configuration
      • decide whether to make the volume bootable, so that it can be used as the boot disk of a Cloud Server;
      • select one of the storage types you want to create;
      • specify the volume size in GB. The minimum volume size is 1 GB;
      • select Continue;
    • select Confirm on the right-hand side of the sticky bar to complete the volume creation.

      Creating a volume takes a few minutes.

Creating a volume from the Cloud Server details page

  • Go to the details page of the Cloud Server to which you want to add the volume;
  • at the bottom of the page, select the Storage tab;
  • select Create new volume;
  • in the Create new volume procedure, the following information is required:
    • 1. Information
      • assign a name to the volume (follow the naming rules);

      • select Continue;
    • 2. Location
      • the region is inherited;
      • select Continue;
    • 3. Configuration

      Creating a volume takes a few minutes.

Creating a volume with Kubernetes

The storage limit you set when creating/editing a Kubernetes cluster represents the maximum total size of all volumes created in that specific cluster.

To create Block Storage on a Kubernetes cluster, use the APIs. The most common method is to use the Kubectl client.
Configure the client using the file you can download from your cluster details page:
  • log in to Aruba CMP;
  • from the menu, select Public Cloud > Container;
  • in the Aruba Managed Kubernetes area, select Go to clusters;
  • in the Aruba Managed Kubernetes section, locate the cluster and select the three dots at the end of the corresponding row;
  • select Manage cluster from the list;
  • on the cluster details page, go to Cluster actions and select Download config file.
Example of how to create Block Storage:

$ kubectl apply -f creablockstorage.yaml

The file contains:

---
apiVersion: v1
kind: PersistentVolumeClaim
metadata:
  name: wp-pv-claim
  labels:
    app: wordpress
spec:
  accessModes:
    - ReadWriteOnce
  resources:
    requests:
    storage: 20Gi

Volumes created in a specific zone are only visible from that same zone.
