04 Configuring a private network on Windows Cloud Servers

The operations described may affect the system and data, potentially causing malfunctions or data loss:
  • always back up your data or the entire server externally before performing any operation;
  • if available, create a snapshot of the server from the management panel before making changes to the system;
  • for unmanaged services, you are responsible for managing the operating system and software;
  • if in doubt, consult a trusted system administrator or check the latest official documentation for the operating system or software in use.

Before proceeding

Before configuring the private network in the operating system:

Configuring the private network on Windows

Access the Windows Cloud Server and proceed as follows:
  • go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center and select Change adapter settings;
  • identify the network interface connected to the Virtual Switch, right-click it and select Properties;

  • select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties;

  • on the General tab, select Use the following IP address;
  • in the IP address field, enter the private IP address chosen for the network interface, for example 192.168.0.11;

    Do not assign the same private IP address to multiple Cloud Servers: duplicate IP addresses cause a conflict that prevents proper communication within the private network.
  • check that the Subnet mask field contains the netmask specified for the private network;
    • in this example, when you enter 192.168.0.11, Windows automatically suggests 255.255.255.0;
  • leave the Default gateway field blank and confirm by clicking OK.

Repeat the procedure for all Windows Cloud Servers you want to connect to the private network, assigning each network interface a unique private IP address belonging to the same network and using the corresponding netmask.

What to do after configuration

After configuring the private network on the Cloud Servers, verify the private network configuration and check that the Cloud Servers can communicate correctly using their respective private IP addresses.
