03 Creating a private network between several Cloud Servers

The operations described may affect the system and data, potentially causing malfunctions or data loss:
  • always back up your data or the entire server externally before performing any operation;
  • if available, create a snapshot of the server from the management panel before making changes to the system;
  • for unmanaged services, you are responsible for managing the operating system and software;
  • if in doubt, consult a trusted system administrator or check the latest official documentation for the operating system or software in use.

Requirements for creating a private network

To create a private network, you need:
  • two or more OpenStack Cloud Servers or VMware Cloud Servers;
  • a Virtual Switch;
  • at least one network interface for each Cloud Server that has not been assigned a public IP address through the Control Panel;
  • a unique private IP address for each network interface you want to connect to the Virtual Switch.
A Virtual Switch is required to enable communication between two or more Cloud Servers using private IP addresses.
Before creating the network, see how to choose the IP address and netmask for the private network.

Private network features

A private network can consist of Cloud Servers running different operating systems, such as Windows and Linux.
Private networks use the TCP/IP protocol: each network interface connected to the private network must have a unique private IP address belonging to the same network and use the corresponding netmask.
The IP addresses used for the private network are chosen according to the network addressing scheme and are not public IP addresses purchased from Aruba Cloud. For more information, see how to choose the IP address and netmask for the private network.

Creating a private network between multiple Cloud Servers

To create a private network: You can follow the specific procedure for:

Using the NetBIOS protocol

For security reasons, Aruba Cloud filters the NetBIOS Frames (NBF) protocol, which enables communication between machines without using IP addresses.
NetBIOS over TCP/IP (NBT), on the other hand, is based on TCP/IP and can therefore be used normally within the private network.
