4.1.5 DragonDisk

Here below is a guide on how to use the Aruba Object Storage service via the DragonDisk connection client. To use the service you need to have the following details:

Account Name - the name you have given to the account when creating it;
Password - the password you have chosen for the account;
Region URL - the address of the Region to which the account belongs to, available in the account details page;

  • Download the software, start the installation and run the program.
  • An interface like the following will appear.

  • Click on "Accounts..." in the "File" menu.

  • A window like the following will appear. Click on "New".

  • A dialog box will appear requesting several parameters.
    Select "Other S3 compatible service" from the "Provider" list.
    Enter the Region URL indicated in the details page of the Object Storage account (without the http://) in the "Service Endpoint" field.
    Enter the name you wish to give to the new account in the "Account name" field.
    The "Comment" field is optional.
    Enter the Account Name of the Object Storage account in the "Access key" field.
    Enter the Password of the Object Storage account in the "Secret key" field

  • Confirm by clicking "OK". The new account will appear in the list of "Accounts". From this section you can later edit the previously configured parameters.

  • Now you can access the remote space related to the account: select the account (indicated with the selected "Account name") in one of the two "Root" lists found at the top and in the other "Computer". If you have configured multiple Object Storage accounts you can transfer data between the two remote spaces.

  • It is possible to change how the two columns are displayed from "View" in the top menu.
  • The first thing you need to do is create a folder which will represent the "bucket" (unique for each Region) of the Object Storage account, and the name you give it will then be used to generate the URL to type in the browsers in order to access the files uploaded in the remote space.
  • Select the new account and click on the provided icon to create the "bucket".

  • A dialog box will appear in which you need to enter the name (see guide).

  • If the name you choose has already been used in the same Region or if you do not follow the name composition regulations, the program will display an error message.
  • By clicking on "OK" the "bucket" will be created, and the folder will appear in the remote space. It is possible to create multiple "buckets" in the same remote space.

  • To transfer the files you need to select them and then use the provided "Copy" and "Paste" buttons.

By having two connection areas DragonDisk allows you to transfer files intuitively. For users who have created multiple Object Storage accounts it is possible to transfer from the space of one account to another without having to download the files on a device; in this case you need to create the related connections.

Configure the permissions

After uploading a file in the remote storage space it is possible to configure the permissions to make it public. To configure a file proceed as follows:
  • Select the file in the remote storage space and right-click it. A dropdown menu will appear,

  • Select "Properties". The "Object properties" window will open. Select the "Security" tab.

  • Click on "Add" to add a profile, and select the "All Users" option from the list. (For experienced users it is also possible to create new profiles through the "New" button).

  • The "All Users" profile will be activated which will then be listed with the other active profiles. By selecting "Download" the file will be made public, allowing all those who know the address to reach it, to see it and if required download it.

  • Should you wish to make a file private simply follow the same process and uncheck the permission previously granted to the "All Users" profile.
  • We remind you that DragonDisk by default configures any uploaded file as private. It is therefore necessary to perform the above process to make it public.
